Narrative
TIOGA CO., PA – A man and child died, and two other children were seriously injured Tuesday in a wrong-way crash along the highway in east-central Tioga County.
The accident occurred shortly before 2:30 on Route 6 near Bailey Road, which is between Mainesburg and Sylvania in Sullivan Township.
Police say that for unknown reasons, an eastbound Towanda Area School District van carrying at least three students entered the westbound side of the highway and collided head-on with an 18-wheeler.
Both a 9-year-old passenger and the 66-year-old driver of the van, identified as Ronald Wickwire, died at the scene.
Medics airlifted two other students to an area hospital in stable condition.
It’s unclear if the truck driver sustained injuries.
