Narrative
PHILADELPHIA, PA – One person died, and two police officers went to the hospital Friday after a crash on the far-east side of Philadelphia.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at Columbus Boulevard and Race Street, which is just west of the Delaware River and the state line between Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Police say the driver of a Mazda pickup truck made an illegal left turn on Race Street from northbound Columbus, entering the path of a police cruiser. The two vehicles collided, and the force of the crash caused the pickup truck to overturn.
The driver of the pickup truck died from injuries sustained in the accident. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name to the public.
Both police officers went to the hospital with minor injuries and have since returned home.
